Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Undersea Systems in Colorado Springs to advance R&D and transition technologies for DoD/DoE programs. You will work with engineers and technicians from concept through field operation.

The role emphasizes deep-submergence design, pressure-vessel analysis, and rapid prototyping in a multidisciplinary setting. Strong hands-on skills and DoD-friendly experience are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 5–8 years of demonstrated subsea mechanical design experience.
• Experience with FEA and structural analysis.
• Experience in high-pressure underwater environments.
• Strong hands-on problem-solving and prototype testing experience.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for deep-submergence applications up to 5000 ft.
• Analyze pressure housings, enclosures, and subsea assemblies.
• Perform hydrostatic and external-pressure calculations and buckling checks.
• Develop materials, seals, coatings for seawater exposure.
• Use FEA to validate designs and iterate based on test data.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, electrical engineering, and test teams.
• Prepare manufacturing drawings with GD&T and design intent.
• Support prototype fabrication, testing, and field deployments.
• Document results and provide design improvements.
