Job description

The Deep Foundations Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all field operations related to deep foundation construction projects, including drilled shafts, driven piles, auger cast piles, micropiles, soil improvement systems, earth retention systems, and specialty foundation work. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with company standards, contract requirements, and applicable regulations.

The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, directing crews, subcontractors, equipment utilization, and daily production activities while maintaining strong communication with project management, clients, engineers, and inspectors.

Key Responsibilities
Project Execution
  • Manage daily field operations for deep foundation and geotechnical construction projects.
  • Develop and implement work plans, schedules, and sequencing strategies.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Monitor production rates and adjust resources to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure all work is performed according to project specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
  • Lead pre-construction planning and jobsite mobilization activities.
Safety Leadership
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a culture of safety accountability throughout the project team.
Quality Control
  • Verify installation methods and procedures meet design requirements.
  • Review inspection reports, testing results, and quality documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and quality control personnel.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of production records and as-built information.Identify and resolve field quality issues promptly.
  • Supervise foremen, operators, drill crews, laborers, and subcontractors.
  • Assign work responsibilities and monitor crew performance.
  • Mentor field personnel and support workforce development.
  • Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Foster teamwork and accountability among project staff.
Schedule & Cost Management
  • Track production quantities and project progress.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to identify schedule risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor equipment utilization and labor productivity.
  • Assist with forecasting manpower and equipment needs.
  • Support cost control efforts by minimizing rework and downtime.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in deep foundations, geotechnical, heavy civil, or specialty construction.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Drilled shafts
    • Driven pile systems
    • Auger cast piles (CFA/ACIP)
    • Micropiles
    • Soil stabilization and ground improvement
    • Earth retention systems
    • Heavy construction equipment operations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
