Job summary

ISU Research Park is seeking a Dedicated Final Mile Fleet Manager in Des Moines to lead a team of drivers, optimize routes, and meet delivery requirements. The role emphasizes coaching, safety, and achieving company goals, with a Monday–Friday schedule and occasional additional login in the evening for routing updates.

The ideal candidate will have a four-year degree in Transportation and Logistics and proven ability to manage driver performance, maintain payroll records, and ensure on-time

Responsibilities

• Accept orders, optimize routes, and plan delivery schedules for productivity.
• Dispatch loads to drivers with clear requirements and routing.
• Arrange additional labor for deliveries when needed.
• Track drivers to ensure on-time delivery performance.
• Communicate with drivers and customers to resolve issues.
• Notify customers of changes impacting expectations or loads.
• Promote safety and adhere to hours-of-service rules.
• Support driver retention by understanding needs and keeping drivers motivated.
• Identify and resolve performance issues through driver evaluations and meetings.
• Resolve conflicts regarding home time, pay, equipment, and loads.
• Maintain and submit weekly driver payroll records.
• Enforce company policies and maintain driver performance records.
• Schedule equipment maintenance as required and oversee moffett forklift operations.
• Participate in driver training and onboarding on required procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Primary Function

The primary function of a Dedicated Final Mile Fleet Manager is to utilize coaching and leadership skills to manage dedicated drivers and achieve specific goals. These goals include meeting pick-up and delivery requirements, maximizing revenue, driver productivity and other established company goals, retaining drivers, and achieving an excellent safety record.

Shift

Tuesday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm & Saturday, 6am to 4:30pm. You will also need to login briefly, around 5:30pm, for some routing.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Accept orders, optimize routes, and plan delivery schedules maximizing productivity and efficiency
• Dispatch loads to the drivers (issue load information, delivery requirements, and routing)
• Arrange for additional labor for any deliveries that require it.
• Track drivers through their daily delivery schedule to ensure on-time delivery expectations are begin met.
• Communicate with drivers and customers quickly and effectively to resolve any delivery issues that may arise throughout the day.
• Notify Customer of issues/changes that might impact customer expectations or affect load assignments
• Promote safety throughout all areas of operations, including the dispatching of loads in accordance with the drivers hours of availability
• Focus on driver retention by understanding driver requirements/preferences, by monitoring driver performance to ensure driver requirements are being met, and by keeping drivers informed and motivated
• Identify, track, and resolve performance issues by conducting driver evaluations and driver route and hold meetings
• Resolve driver conflicts, problems, and requests with respect to matters such as, home time, pay, equipment, and load assignments
• Responsible for maintaining and submitting driver payroll records weekly.
• Ensure the awareness of and enforce company policies
• Maintain records pertaining to driver performance and productivity
• Track equipment maintenance requirements and schedule equipment to have work done accordingly
• Involvement in the training process required of these drivers to ensure they are educated and trained on all details required of the position, including proper operation of the moffett forklifts.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

• Four-year degree, preferably in Transportation and Logistics, and/or relevant experience in transportation or related field
• Fluent in computer applications and keyboard proficiency
• Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress
• Ability to plan, organize, be attentive to detail and possess and strong problem-solving skill
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including good listening skills
• Possess courteous, yet assertive telephone personality
