Job summary

ORBIS Inc. is seeking a Deck Plate Supervisor Coach to mentor and guide frontline supervisors in shipbuilding and ship maintenance environments. The role focuses on coaching to improve productivity, maintain schedule adherence, and uphold safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of Supervisory experience in an industrial environment within shipbuilding/ship maintenance.
• Minimum 5 years of 2nd level management experience in an industrial environment within shipbuilding/ship maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Coach supervisor on ensuring work is properly staged and communicated to workers.
• Set clear expectations for half-shift progress and lead workers to ownership of output.
• Define backup tasks and set expectations for backup readiness if primary tasks lag.
• Ensure progress is rapidly communicated and documented on a half-shift basis.
• Develop supervisors’ ability to meet target time on task and productivity goals.
• Prepare the work site and ensure necessary services, tools, and instructions are ready.
• Increase deckplate presence and direct observation of work in progress.
• Coach on problem resolution regarding paperwork, tooling, equipment, and as-found conditions.
• Ensure work package documentation is kept up to date.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity through better access to tools, equipment, and materials.
• Attend meetings with supervisors and provide coaching on preparation and response.
• Be present on the deckplate when supervisors have mandatory tasks and delegate as needed.
• Spend at least 4 hours a day on deckplate and ensure smooth handoffs to successors.
• Coach senior supervision (General Foreman/Area Superintendent) to reinforce coached behaviors.
