Job summary

ORBIS Inc. is seeking a deck plate supervisor to coach and mentor teams at Quonset Point, RI and Groton, CT. The role focuses on productivity, schedule adherence, and safety while guiding leadership on the deckplate and ensuring readiness of work, tools, and instructions.

A strong emphasis is placed on direct observation, timely progress, and effective communication. The position requires extensive supervisory experience in shipbuilding/ship maintenance, along with US citizenship and the ability

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience in an industrial environment within shipbuilding/ship maintenance.
• Minimum 5 years of 2nd level management experience in an industrial environment within shipbuilding/ship maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Coach supervisors to ensure work is staged and briefed to workers.
• Set clear expectations for progress in half-shift increments.
• Define backup tasks and ensure backup plans are in place.
• Facilitate rapid communication of barriers and progress on a half-shift basis.
• Lead workers to ownership of output and outcomes.
• Ensure work site conditions, tools, and equipment are ready.
• Increase deckplate presence to ensure progress is being made on time.
• Coach on problem resolution related to paperwork, tooling, equipment, and materials.
• Ensure work package documentation is up to date.
• Plan handoffs to successor and coordinating with adjacent trades.
• Spend at least 4 hours per day on deckplate.
• Support the superior of the supervisor to reinforce coached behaviors after coaching.
