Salary range: $26.04/HR - $34.59/HR - based upon technical skills and experience

Hornblower is seeking Deckhands for our Statue City Cruises operation in Jersey City.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

Under the supervision of the First Officer, serves on deck aboard a US Coast Guard inspected small passenger vessel, practicing good seamanship while performing duties as a Statue Cruises crew member, including Deck Security & Safety Watch, Customer Service, and supporting our 'Respect our Planet' program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Ensure the safety and security of passengers.
2. Familiarize with ground tackle, emergency gear, deck gear, and vessel emergency plans.
3. Perform safety functions on the Watch Quarter and Emergency Station Bill.
4. Maintain good housekeeping onboard, including heads, windows, and decks, following COVID-19 cleaning procedures.
5. Prepare vessels for operational readiness.
6. Check passengers' bags, knapsacks, etc., as directed by security personnel.
7. Tend gangways during passenger loading and unloading.
8. Tend mooring lines during vessel maneuvers and while docked.
9. Wear Statue Cruises Uniform at all times in the presence of guests.
10. Assist guests and answer questions about The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, or local attractions.
11. Assist in queuing and pre-boarding of guests.
12. Follow policies and procedures, including all directives from the National Park Service and Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island policies.
13. Splice lines and wire ropes.
14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

1. At least 2 years of marine experience.
2. CPR/First Aid Certification and TWIC card required.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to interact professionally at all levels.
5. Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
6. Capability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
7. Availability to work weekends and holidays, as the organization serves the public year-round.

Pay Rates:

• Deckhand Level 2: $26.04/hour
• Deckhand Level 1A: $28.64/hour
• Deckhand Level 1: $34.59/hour

Levels are based on skills and experience.
