Hornblower is seeking Deckhands for our Statue City Cruises operation in Jersey City.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

Under the direct supervision of the First Officer, serve on deck aboard a US Coast Guard inspected small passenger vessel, practicing good seamanship while performing duties as a Statue Cruises crew member. Responsibilities include:

1. Ensuring the safety and security of passengers.
2. Familiarity with ground tackle, emergency gear, deck gear, and vessel emergency plans.
3. Performing safety functions as assigned on the Watch Quarter and Emergency Station Bill.
4. Practicing good housekeeping onboard, including heads, windows, and decks, following COVID-19 cleaning procedures.
5. Preparing vessels for operational readiness.
6. Checking passengers’ bags, knapsacks, etc., as directed by security officers.
7. Tending gangways during passenger loading/unloading.
8. Tending mooring lines during vessel maneuvers and while docked.
9. Wearing Statue Cruises Uniform at all times in the presence of guests.
10. Assisting guests and answering questions about The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and local attractions.
11. Assisting in queuing and pre-boarding guests.
12. Enforcing policies and procedures.
13. Following all directives and policies to ensure an interpretive experience for visitors.
14. Splicing lines and wire rope.
15. Performing additional duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

1. Minimum 2 years marine experience.
2. CPR/First Aid Certification and TWIC required.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to interact professionally at all levels.
5. Good judgment and discretion.
6. Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
7. Availability to work weekends and holidays, as the organization serves the public year-round.

Pay Levels:

• Deckhand Level 2: $26.04/hour
• Deckhand Level 1A: $28.64/hour
• Deckhand Level 1: $34.59/hour

Levels are based on skills and experience.
