Job summary

ThayerMahan, Inc. is seeking a Deckhand/Engineer to join our Groton, CT operations. The role supports operations aboard our vessels, with emphasis on diesel engines, vessel systems, and teamwork in a maritime environment.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years sailing as AB, OS, or QMED, and a desire to advance in offshore maritime work. Pre-employment checks apply and required certifications may be pursued on the job.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years’ experience sailing as AB, OS or QMED.
• Experience as Deckhand or Engineer on CTVs, OSVs, ferries or similar.
• Team-oriented with customer service focus.
• Ability to handle lines, vessel systems and maintain safety.

Responsibilities

• Stand lookout watch when required.
• Assist Captain/Mate in operating the vessel.
• Maintain deck and engineering systems and housekeeping.
• Follow company SMS procedures.
• Start/stop main and auxiliary engines as directed.
• Operate deck gear and report incidents or safety concerns.
