Job summary

ICES: Data, Discovery, Better Health is seeking an AB Deckhand to support safe and efficient vessel operations. Responsibilities include docking/undocking, line handling, cleaning, cargo operations, and lookout duties under captain or senior crew guidance.

The role requires teamwork, adherence to safety protocols, and flexibility for night/weekend/offshore shifts. TWIC and MMC with Able-Bodied Seafarer Rating are required; STCW is preferred. Union membership is part of this role.

Qualifications

  • MMC W/ Able-Bodied Seafarer Rating is mandatory.
  • STCW is preferred for consideration.

Job description

Position Summary:

The AB Deckhand is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of vessels by performing a variety of tasks related to the upkeep, maintenance, and general operation of the vessel and its equipment. This position involves physical labor, adherence to safety protocols, and teamwork to ensure smooth day-to-day marine operations. AB Deckhands assist with docking and undocking, line handling, vessel cleaning, cargo operations, and lookout duties. This role may also include assisting passengers or crew and responding to emergency situations as directed by the Captain or senior crew.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Handle lines and secure vessels and barges

  • Assist with towing, dredging, and construction support operations

  • Perform general vessel maintenance and cleaning

  • Operate deck equipment and tools safely

  • Stand lookout or navigational watches as directed

  • Work as part of a team to maintain safe and efficient operations

  • Join Masters, Mates, And Pilots Union (required)

  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, extended hitches offshore, and emergency call-outs
