Responsibilities

  • Mooring, anchoring, and securing barges and vessels.
  • Handle ropes, cables, rigging, chains, and lifting equipment.
  • Load, unload, and secure construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist crane and equipment operators during lifting.
  • Support diving operations and maintain dive equipment.
  • Perform general deck maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Operate power tools, pumps, generators, and other equipment.
  • Participate in mobilization/demobilization activities.
  • Follow all safety policies, maintain a clean work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Huffman Contractors, LLC is seeking a hardworking and safety-conscious Deck Hand to support marine construction operations. The Deck Hand assists with the daily operation and maintenance of barges, workboats, equipment, and construction materials used in marine and heavy civil construction projects. This position works closely with crane operators, equipment operators, commercial divers, and project supervisors to safely complete project objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with mooring, anchoring, and securing barges and vessels.
  • Handle ropes, cables, rigging, chains, slings, and other lifting equipment.
  • Load, unload, and secure construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist crane operators and equipment operators during lifting and construction activities.
  • Support commercial diving operations by assisting dive teams and maintaining dive equipment as directed.
  • Perform general deck maintenance including cleaning, painting, chipping, greasing, and minor repairs.
  • Operate power tools, pumps, generators, and other construction equipment as assigned.
  • Participate in project mobilization and demobilization activities.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous marine construction, barge, tugboat, commercial fishing, or construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to work long hours, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, board vessels, and work on floating equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working around water, heavy equipment, and construction operations.
