Description

JOB TITLE: Deckhand

REPORTS TO: Blast Foreman and Superintendents

Summary of position: This position requires willingness to learn and the ability to follow directions concerning blasting in the marine industry. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor to ensure safe and timely completion of tasks.

Essential Job Requirements

• Perform duties related to blast operations and maintain a clean work environment.
• Test, repair, and maintain blast hoses and equipment.
• Assist with marking work areas and removing grit.
• Keep dust collectors and filters in working order.
• Follow OSHA and safety regulations relevant to shipbuilding.
• Operate and maintain equipment properly.
• Follow directions accurately and perform additional duties as needed.
• Overtime or shift work may be required.

Qualifications

Education: None required

Experience: Up to one year in the marine industry or related training

Skills: Ability to follow directions, work cooperatively with others

Physical and Aptitude Requirements

• Regular walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, sitting, reaching, handling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Use of vision and ability to work in low light conditions.
• May need to wear a respirator.
• Ability to carry out simple, safe, and timely directions.

Working Conditions

Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather, dust, wet/humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces, and working on scaffolds/ladders.
