Job summary

Goldbelt is seeking a Deckhand to assist in operating and maintaining 150-passenger vessels, applying emergency procedures, and supporting the crew with line handling, cleaning, and passenger assistance.

Responsibilities include line handling, docking support, fuel/water intake, trash removal, basic maintenance, and active participation in emergency drills, with occasional overnight stays at Kensington Mine when needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and customer service skills for public interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Handle lines, fuel and water, gangways, and trash removal; perform basic vessel and engine maintenance.
  • Participate in emergency procedures, follow checklists, and explain actions for incidents.

Overview

Summary:


The Deckhand willassistwith the operation and maintenance of150-passenger vesselsincluding the application of emergency procedures andassistingas a member of the vessel crew with line handling, cleaning,andassistingpassengers.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of and ability to apply emergency and fire regulations, emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and systems applicable to vessel operation.
  • Knowledge of proper vessel handling and docking.
  • Basic knowledge of vessel maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Skill inestablishingand maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information,andassistanceon a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of maritime industry experience.
  • Musthave a driver’s license.
  • CurrentFirst Aid CPR certificate.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug test; subject to random drug testing.
  • Must be able to pass a breathalyzer test before each shift for Kensington Mine.

Working Conditions


The work is performed on a vessel with a passenger capacity of 150 people,utilizingmultiple docks with exposure to inclement weather conditions and potentially rough seas. On occasion, the vessel may berequiredto perform beach landings to load and offload passengers. Hours vary and will include working on holidays and weekends. May berequiredto stay overnight at Kensington Mine when weather conditions are too rough tooperatenormally.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:


  • Responsible for line handling,taking on fuel and water,handlinggangways,removal of trash,and basic vessel and engine maintenance.
  • Functions as one of the key crew members when instituting emergency procedures, following the emergency checklist and explaining any deviation from the latter,andapplies knowledge of and explains the first actions to takein the event ofman overboard and vessel flooding.
  • Assistswith training crew members during periodic drills.
