Job summary

Commonpoint Queens (Samuel Field YM and YWHA) seeks a Deck Supervisor to manage swim program shifts, supervise on-deck staff, and maintain a safe pool environment at the Bronx location. You will interact with students and parents/guardians and ensure program quality.

The role requires CPR/AED and a background in youth programs; weekend availability is essential to cover Saturday and Sunday shifts.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with children.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication and organizational skills.
• Background in youth programs or coaching is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily pre-shift meetings and prepare the deck for each shift.
• Complete daily Deck Supervisor logs on assigned shifts and monitor student attendance.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
• Coordinate tasks to ensure the cleanliness and organization of the pool facility.
• Act as a substitute swim instructor when necessary.
• Participate in required training and in-services.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

The Deck Supervisor manages the assigned shift, including supervision of on-deck staff, maintaining a safe and clean pool environment, and interacting with students and parents/guardians. This role requires expert-level knowledge of all levels of the swim curriculum and a strong understanding of management policies and practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Conduct daily pre-shift meetings and prepare the deck for each shift.
• Complete daily Deck Supervisor logs on assigned shifts and monitor student attendance.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
• Coordinate tasks to ensure the cleanliness and organization of the pool facility.
• Act as a substitute swim instructor when necessary.
• Participate in required training and in-services.

Requirements

• Ability to work with children
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Availability to work weekend shifts only (Saturday and Sunday required)
• Must pass background examinations (included with training)

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred

Minimum of two (2) years experience as a swim instructor (preferred)

Experience as a youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor, and/or teacher preferred

Certifications & Licenses

CPR/AED Certification (required)
