Job summary

The City of Decatur, IL, is seeking a Database Administrator to join the Information Technology team and oversee enterprise databases powering public safety, finance, utilities, and ERP systems. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, IS, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of enterprise database administration experience.
• Strong SQL development and tuning skills.
• Experience with database architecture, indexing, and disaster recovery.
• Illinois driver's license required.
• Preferred: municipal/public sector experience and cloud DB experience (Azure SQL, AWS RDS), and DP-900/DP-300.

The City of Decatur is hiring a Database Administrator to join our Information Technology team and manage the enterprise databases powering critical City operations — public safety, finance, utilities, permitting, asset management, and our ERP systems.

This is a technical leadership role where you’ll partner with IT staff, vendors, and department leaders to keep mission-critical systems secure, high-performing, and reliable.

What You’ll Do

• Install, configure, and optimize enterprise databases (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar)
• Monitor database health, tune performance, and manage upgrades and patching
• Support high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/restoration strategies
• Administer database security, permissions, and compliance with data protection standards
• Support ERP, public safety, finance, and other business-critical applications
• Develop stored procedures, scripts, and automation tools for reporting and operations

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of progressively responsible enterprise database administration experience
• Strong SQL development skills — stored procedures, scripting, performance tuning
• Knowledge of database architecture, indexing, query optimization, and disaster recovery
• Valid Illinois driver’s license
• Preferred: municipal/public sector experience, cloud database experience (Azure SQL, AWS RDS), and DP-900/DP-300 certifications
