Dean, School of Health Sciences

The Dean supports the school's direction and vision aligned with the University's vision and mission. A collaborative leadership style and commitment to promoting academic excellence and a positive student and faculty experience are essential to the success of this strategic leader.

The Dean oversees student learning outcomes and success metrics and ensures all programmatic requirements are met for accredited programs within the school. The Dean makes recommendations supporting policy, people, process, and the resources needed to ensure the health of all programs in the portfolio. The Dean plays a crucial role in directing and leading initiatives to strengthen the programs' overall health and ensure a high- quality experience for students and faculty.

As the school's leader, the Dean has primary responsibility for setting professional expectations for students and has direct oversight of faculty and student concerns. The Dean ensures the program has the support necessary to foster student development and prepare adult learners to enter the workforce successfully. The Dean participates in the curriculum and academic policy approval process and works closely with the University Curriculum Committee and other leaders in Academic and Student Affairs and other Departments across the University.

Program Governance & Outcome Oversight

• Articulates and implements a vision for the programs included in the school portfolio that supports the academic and institutional mission and vision of the University.
• Analyzes program review and assessment data for continuous improvement.
• Directs strategic efforts focused on growth, academic quality, and student outcomes that influence retention and persistence to promote completion.
• Has primary responsibility for academic excellence, student experience, and the overall health of educational programs in the portfolio.
• Provides oversight for assessment, initial and continued accreditation of the University's programs, and continuous improvement processes as required.
• Supports continuous improvement of evaluation methods, systems and practices.
• Conducts routine analysis on process and outcome data and shares recommendations and insights with internal and external stakeholders
• Participates in developing action plans to address areas not meeting the program standards.
• Participates in tracking key academic metrics used to monitor the performance of the school, including but not limited to faculty staffing ratios (FY and PT), program completion rates, and graduation rates.
• Assists the Accreditation and Evaluation team with the necessary documentation as requested.
• Responds in a timely and appropriate manner to students, faculty, and staff requests for information and/or guidance as requested.
• Fosters a culture of inclusivity and belonging to ensure all students and faculty feel welcome and supported.
• Actively participates as a member of the Academic Team and fosters collaborative relationships within the University and external stakeholders and employers.

Reporting Relationships:
The Dean reports to the AVP of the School. The Dean supervises Full-Time and Adjunct faculty aligned with the programs in their area of leadership.

Requirements:

• Master's Degree Required, Terminal Degree Preferred (Healthcare, Health Sciences Related field, Healthcare Administration)
• At least five years of teaching experience in higher education
• Certification in health sciences related field preferred
• At least four years of academic and administrative experience in higher education
• Evidence of effective, transparent communication; the ability to listen to and respect different perspectives
• Demonstrated experience working across disciplines and strong knowledge of the programs represented within the University
• Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills
• Demonstrated effectiveness in advocating on behalf of faculty, staff, students, and programs to achieve goals.
• Demonstrated understanding of factors related to retention and success for adult students
• Experience leading program development, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives
