LOCATION:Wayland Baptist University – Plainview Campus

SUPERVISED BY:Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA)

POSITION CLASSIFICATION:Full-Time (12- month) Exempt

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: The Dean directly supervises the School of Business associate deans and full-time faculty serving on the Plainview campus and WBUonline, adjunct instructors teaching in the school, and staff assigned to the School of Business.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Business and reports directly to the Provost/VPAA. The Dean is responsible for providing visionary leadership that advances the mission of Wayland Baptist University and promotes excellence in teaching, student success, scholarship, service, and Christian higher education. The Dean serves as both an academic leader and faculty member and fosters collaboration across campuses, schools, and university constituencies. The Dean must consider institutional needs from a system-wide perspective while supporting the unique needs of Wayland's students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES
Academic Leadership
  • Provide strategic leadership for all undergraduate and graduate business programs, with the support of three associate deans (undergraduate, graduate/Master’s/PhD).
  • Ensure academic quality, innovation, and continuous improvement within the School of Business.
  • Lead academic program development, revision, assessment, and review processes.
  • Oversee annual revisions to the Academic Catalog related to School of Business curriculum and programs, subject to approval by Academic Council and/or Graduate Council.
  • Promote student success through academic advising, recruitment, retention, and graduation initiatives.
Faculty Leadership and Personnel Administration
  • Foster a collegial culture of collaboration, professional growth, accountability, and instructional excellence.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation for faculty and staff within the School of Business.
  • Coordinate faculty workload assignments and scheduling.
  • Support faculty engagement in scholarship, professional development, service, and teaching effectiveness.
Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation
  • Lead the School of Business institutional effectiveness process, including program reviews, faculty evaluations, assessment activities, and annual reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)/Commission on Colleges and Universities requirements and applicable business-school accreditation standards.
  • Continue to move the School of Business towards completion of its ACBSP accreditation
  • Complete Evaluation of Faculty Qualifications (EFQ) documentation according to specifications established by the VPAA.
Budget and Resource Management
  • Prepare and manage the annual Planning, Budgeting, and Effectiveness Report (PBER).
  • Develop and oversee annual operating budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Manage travel budgets and school-related financial resources responsibly.
  • Prepare annual and end-of-year reports as requested by the VPAA.
  • Monitor facilities, equipment, and resources utilized by School of Business programs and report needs appropriately.
University Service and Engagement
  • Serve on university and school committees as assigned.
  • Participate in commencement ceremonies, faculty meetings, convocations, and other institutional events.
  • Represent the School of Business within the university and the broader community.
  • Support enrollment growth through recruiting, retention, and relationship-building efforts.
  • Promote cooperation and collaboration among Wayland campuses and educational centers.
Technology and Online Education
  • Ensure effective use of university-approved learning management, student success, and retention systems.
  • Maintain competency in university technologies through required training and professional development.
  • Support the quality and effectiveness of online business programs and course offerings.
Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach twelve (12) credit hours during the twelve-month contractual period, with teaching assignments determined in consultation with the VPAA.
  • Maintain faculty qualifications and engage in professional development consistent with university and accreditation expectations.
Compliance and Policy Administration
  • Ensure adherence to university policies, procedures, and academic standards.
  • Submit reports, documentation, and requested information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Mission and Faith Commitment
  • Demonstrated commitment to/agreement with the mission and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by Baptist General Convention of Texas & Wayland Baptist University.
  • Be a Christian actively involved in a local Christian congregation.
  • Represent the university's Christian mission and spiritual emphasis in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Education

Earned Ph.D. or D.B.A. in a business-related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution.

Experience
  • Successful experience in higher education teaching and academic leadership.
  • Recent experience supervising faculty or administering academic programs in a college or university setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to support accreditation, assessment, planning, budgeting, and institutional effectiveness processes.
  • Experience leading diverse groups through collaborative decision-making and organizational change is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead collaboratively while maintaining accountability.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

The work environment is primarily a standard office setting utilizing computers, telephones, and other office equipment. Moderate noise levels typical of higher education administrative environments should be expected. Some travel may be required to support recruitment, university initiatives, and external campus operations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employee must be able and willing to travel as necessary for university business.

Employee must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

Employee must have access to reliable transportation.
