Job summary

Texas A&M International University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library. The Dean will lead the library in support of teaching, learning, research, and scholarship, articulating a vision and positioning the library as a strategic partner.

The Dean will supervise approximately 20 full‑time staff and 20 part‑time student workers, manage a $2.6M budget, and pursue external funding through grants to enhance programs and collections.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Progressive administrative experience in an academic library setting.
  • Eight years of related library experience, including managerial roles.
  • Five years of successful library administrative experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • Experience integrating technology and digital resources, including knowledge of library technologies.
  • Experience leading initiatives to encourage open educational resources and open textbooks.
  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred.

  • Initiate needs assessment and implement plans for selection, acquisition, cataloging, classification, circulation of library media, and collaborative agreements.
  • Seek external funding and write grant proposals to enhance programs, facilities, and collections.
  • Coordinate library programs and services to meet student and faculty needs across onsite and offsite venues.
  • Develop, interpret, and implement policies and procedures for efficient daily operations and long‑term quality improvement.
  • Foster collaborative opportunities within the library, across campus, community, and other institutions.
  • Facilitate integration of emerging technologies, including AI.
  • Support scholarly activity of faculty librarians; participate in resource sharing and consortia.

  • Perform any other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library Science (or equivalent) from an ALA‑accredited program.
  • Progressive administrative experience in an academic library setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Second Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent advanced degree.
  • At least eight years of related library experience, including managerial roles.
  • Five years of successful library administrative experience in progressively responsible positions (department head, assistant dean, associate dean).
  • Record of engagement in professional associations and advocacy at local, state, national, and international levels.
  • Experience integrating technology and digital resources, including knowledge of electronic resources, library technologies, and automated systems.
  • Successful strategic planning and assessment of library programs, operations, and services.
  • Awareness of current issues, developments, innovations, and challenges in academic librarianship.
  • Capacity to foster team building, accountability, professional growth, trust, and productivity.
  • Experience leading initiatives to encourage the use of open educational resources and open textbooks.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
