Summary
The Dean of Students serves as a supportive faculty member working with the principal and assistant principals in the day-to-day management of the school’s academic and behavior programs. The Dean of Students works cooperatively with staff, students and parents towards a positive school climate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists the Principal and Associate Principals in the investigation and resolution of disciplinary problems and maintenance of records of any action taken to ensure that the discipline policy is administered in a fair and just manner..
- Manage, coordinate and complete all required disciplinary paperwork through the student management system (referrals in Infinite campus, letters home to parents, etc)
- Collaborates with staff around student behavior plans, day-to-day operations, student check-ins, etc.
- Coordinates, facilitates, and implements disciplinary and behavioral intervention and any accompanying follow up support steps, including PBIS, and process with staff, working closely with the Principal and Assistant Principals
- Manages and coordinates student plans regarding tardiness, student attendance and truancy.
- Maintains daily bell schedules
- Assist in the maintenance of the crisis management plan and school safety requirements including coordinating fire and tornado drills
- Manages and coordinates restorative justice practices including peer mediation opportunities
- Provides supervision during student transitions between classes and in the lunchroom
- Works cooperatively with local police agency and the School Resource Office on security matters
- Manages and coordinates the work of the Youth Advocates
- Attends designated meetings as directed by the principal.
Qualification Requirements

Education And Teaching/Work Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a core subject area. Administrative license is preferred, but not required.
- Valid Wisconsin teaching certificate in at least one content/subject area of employment
- Experience working with a diverse student population preferred (racially, culturally, socioeconomically varied).
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, peers, administrators, parents, and the general public. Ability to enter into culturally relevant or culturally specific conversation with groups of students, peers, administrators, parents and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Analytical And Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables, which may involve the ability to convey this information in multiple modalities to ensure student comprehension.
Other Skills And Abilities
Ability to plan around and diffuse tense behavioral issues or concerns. Ability to create interpersonal connections with students, staff, parents and community members. Ability to perform a variety of duties simultaneously. Ability to work with people who express conflicting opinions. Ability to solve problems, make judgments, and reach conclusions.

Certificates, Licenses
Must possess and maintain or be eligible to hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license at least one subject area content/area.

Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25.
