Job summary

Harvard University invites applications for the Dean of First-year Students, overseeing the First-year Dean’s Office and guiding the transition to undergraduate life at Harvard College. This leader mentors staff, coordinates advising, residential life, welfare, and student programming across four years.

Working with the Dean of Students and other leaders, the Dean will shape first-year experience, coordinate celebrations, and contribute to teaching and academic service within the university.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree required.
• Experience in student engagement in a residential setting.
• Familiarity with residential crisis management and student welfare.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the First-year Dean’s Office, including annual budget and supervision of staff.
• Lead first-year advising, residential life, student welfare, and programming.
• Collaborate with Deans and campus partners to support first-year students across four years.
• Coordinate ceremonies and welcoming events for students and families.
• Teach three courses over five years and contribute to the academic mission where possible.
• Engage with space planning and college committees as needed.
