Job summary

Wake Technical Community College seeks a Dean of Nursing to provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for the Nursing Department and its programs. • Oversees budget planning and resource allocation for the nursing program, in collaboration with leadership.

The Dean of Nursing provides strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for the Nursing Department and its portfolio of nursing education programs. The Dean is responsible for establishing departmental direction, ensuring alignment with College and Health Sciences priorities, supporting regulatory and accreditation compliance, evaluating overall program performance, and providing leadership and supervision to nursing program leadership and faculty.

The Dean provides strategic oversight of the Nursing Department while empowering the Nursing Program Director to manage the day-to-day operation and administration of the nursing program in accordance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements.

• Leads and directs the Nursing Department and established departmental goals, priorities, and long-range plans aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of Wake Tech and Health Sciences.
• Supervises and manages the Nursing Program Director(s) and other designated nursing leadership positions.
• Establishes clear expectations and accountability for nursing program leadership and evaluates performance against departmental, institutional, regulatory, accreditation, and student-success expectations.
• Monitors overall nursing program performance, including enrollment, retention, completion, licensure outcomes, student success, graduate outcomes, faculty capacity, and other key performance indicators.
• Leads continuous quality improvement and ensures the development and implementation of appropriate corrective or improvement plans when performance indicators do not meet established expectations.
• Accountable for nursing programs compliance with applicable College policies, North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements, accreditation standards, and other regulatory expectations.
• Evaluates departmental workforce, faculty, facility, clinical-placement, equipment, and instructional capacity needs and advocates for the resources necessary to support program quality and responsible growth.
• Reviews and provides departmental-level oversight of budget planning and resource allocation while holding the Program Director accountable for the development and day-to-day management of the nursing program budget.
• Collaborates with the Program Director regarding faculty staffing needs, recruitment priorities, workload, professional development, succession planning, and faculty capacity.
• Strengthens relationships with healthcare employers, clinical partners, regulatory agencies, advisory groups, and community stakeholders to ensure nursing education remains responsive to regional workforce needs.

Identifies opportunities for program growth, innovation, new educational pathways, simulation, technology integration, apprenticeships, and other workforce-responsive initiatives.

Works collaboratively with Health Sciences leadership and other College divisions to advance interprofessional education, simulation, student success, and the College's One College approach.

Represents the Nursing Department in institutional planning, leadership discussions, committees, external partnerships, and other strategic initiatives.

Serves as the primary administrative liaison between Nursing Department leadership and the Provost/Health Sciences administration.

Ensures significant departmental matters, risks, resource needs, regulatory concerns, and program-performance issues are communicated appropriately and in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Master's of Science Degree in Nursing
• Current unrestricted license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
• A combination of five years of full-time post-secondary teaching and academic leadership experience
• Supervisory or leadership experience

Preferences

• Doctorate Degree in Nursing or a Doctorate Degree in a health-related field, plus a Master of Science Degree in Nursing
• Five years full-time teaching experience at or above the level of Associate Degree Nursing program in a community college setting
• Five years supervisory and leadership experience
