Job summary

FORTIS Colleges and Institutes is seeking an Assistant Dean of Nursing to partner with the Dean in leading the nursing program and managing day-to-day operations on campus in Virginia. The role supports faculty recruitment, scheduling, curriculum development, and program evaluation to ensure accreditation and regulatory compliance.

The position may include teaching responsibilities and requires a current Virginia RN/APRN license, an MSN, and several years of nursing and faculty leadership

Qualifications

  • Current, active, unencumbered RN or APRN license in Virginia, or multistate privilege to practice in Virginia.
  • MSN required; doctoral degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of professional nursing experience, including at least two years of nursing faculty experience.
  • At least one year of leadership/administration/management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of nursing education, curriculum, clinical education, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized academic/data management systems.
  • Ability to serve as a positive, supportive, and professional role model for students and faculty.
  • Ability to complete required background checks, drug screening, immunizations, CPR, HIPAA, and related requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Dean of Nursing in leadership and administration of the nursing program.
  • Assist with faculty recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Coordinate course schedules, faculty assignments, and clinical experiences.
  • Ensure faculty assignments and clinical ratios meet regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and program improvement.
  • Participate in program evaluation and use outcomes data to drive improvements.
  • Support NCLEX eligibility and related state Board requirements for graduates.
  • Provide guidance to faculty and students and resolve academic concerns.
  • Promote communication and collaboration among faculty, students, and leadership.
  • Assist with orientation activities and participate in committees and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Assistant Dean of Nursing partners with the Dean of Nursing to support the leadership and day-to-day operations of the nursing program. This role assists with faculty recruitment and development, course and clinical scheduling, curriculum and program evaluation, student and faculty support, and regulatory compliance.

The Assistant Dean of Nursing works closely with faculty and campus leadership to promote a positive learning environment and ensure the nursing program meets institutional, state Board of Nursing, and accreditation standards. The position may include teaching responsibilities and serves as the Dean of Nursing in their absence.

  • Support the Dean of Nursing in the leadership and administration of the nursing program.
  • Assist with faculty recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Coordinate course schedules, faculty assignments, and clinical experiences in collaboration with nursing faculty and clinical partners.
  • Ensure faculty assignments and clinical ratios meet applicable state Board of Nursing and accreditation requirements.
  • Assist with curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous program improvement.
  • Participate in program evaluation and use outcomes data to support improvements in student and program success.
  • Support NCLEX eligibility and related state Board of Nursing requirements for program graduates.
  • Provide guidance and support to faculty and students and assist with resolving academic or program-related concerns.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration among faculty, students, campus departments, and leadership.
  • Assist with faculty and new student orientation activities.
  • Participate in nursing program committees, meetings, task forces, and other academic activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills, Qualifications & Competencies

Classification: Exempt

Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week; schedule may vary and may include occasional evening and weekend hours.

Work Environment: Primarily campus/office-based with time spent in classrooms and clinical settings as needed.
