The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applications for the position of Dean of the Honors College.

Job Summary

The Dean is the chief academic officer of the Honors College, responsible for strategic leadership, faculty recruitment, budgeting, program administration, and external representation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and administrative leadership for the Honors College.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty; cultivate an intellectually vibrant community.
  • Oversee academic programs, curriculum, assessment, and student learning outcomes.
  • Manage administrative functions, including budgeting, marketing, and strategic planning.
  • Represent the college within UNR and to external constituencies at local, state, regional, and national levels.
  • Lead fundraising and development initiatives for academic programs and student opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Terminal degree and minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience in academic leadership.
  • Record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to receive tenure and rank of professor with tenure home in the Honors College.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in an Honors Program or College at the university level.
  • Experience in academic program administration, assessment, and outcome evaluation.
  • Experience managing complex budgets, including strategic allocation of funds for scholarships, fellowships, research, and programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising or external resource development for academic programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engagement with the national honors education community and familiarity with organizations such as the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Higher Education Research Institute, and the Association of Public and Land‑grant Universities.
  • Understanding of best practices in honors education, interdisciplinary curriculum design, high‑impact practices, and undergraduate research.
  • Experience in program development, proposal writing, and launching new courses or initiatives.
  • Experience leading curriculum development in interdisciplinary or undergraduate‑focused settings.
  • Ability to design and support transformative student experiences, including undergraduate research, experiential learning, community engagement, and global learning opportunities.
  • Experience building and sustaining community‑based or institutional partnerships that provide students with experiential learning, mentorship, or professional development opportunities.
