Job Overview

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine seeks an innovative, strategic leader to serve as the next Assistant or Associate Dean of Faculty Development. The role is key to advancing faculty development programs across education, research, and service delivery, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence among faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design, implementation, and evaluation of faculty development programs in alignment with institutional goals and the Strategic Plan 2024‑29.
  • In the first 90 days, conduct a data‑driven assessment of existing US‑based faculty development resources and present high‑yield ideas to chairs and faculty.
  • Develop and enhance programs such as the Academic Leadership Academy, Academy of Master Educators, and Master Clinician Program.
  • Collaborate with affiliated partners (Renown Health, VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System) to evolve integrated academic health systems.
  • Provide resources and training in both physical and digital settings, support faculty in creating portfolios for retention, promotion, and tenure.
  • Assist faculty retention efforts, especially high‑risk groups, by promoting community‑building initiatives.
  • Organize and manage mentoring programs and facilitate peer sharing of best practices.
  • Represent faculty development interests at advisory council meetings and coordinate with undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education units.
  • Offer training and workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness and identify development needs through data‑driven insights.
  • Oversee faculty awards, recognition, and reward programs across clinical, educational, research, and service missions.
  • Develop orientation programs for junior faculty to support career growth and retention.
  • Allocate 0.50FTE to academic duties such as clinical service, research, or both, in partnership with Renown, VA hospitals, or local emergency medicine/anesthesiology groups.
Qualifications
  • MD, PhD, MD‑PhD, or other relevant doctoral terminal degree.
  • Experience in faculty development and medical‑education administration in an allopathic medical school.
  • Experience with multimodal learning techniques and adult learning styles.
  • Record of successful faculty development initiatives/programs.
  • Familiarity with promotion and tenure requirements for clinicians.
  • Ability to create scalable, inclusive programs and prioritize resources strategically.
  • Strong communication, diplomatic, and change‑management skills.
