Lead Electrical Maintenance Technician
The Lead Electrical Maintenance Technician serves as the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for all electrical work. They coordinate scheduling and execution of Preventative, Predictive, Corrective Maintenance, and Warranty work. The technician balances administrative planning, scheduling, documentation, and field supervision, acting as the first line of supervision for electrical crews.
Responsibilities include ensuring electrical maintenance is completed safely, on schedule, and according to manufacturer recommendations. Duties include:
- Installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical systems and components.
- Acting as "Employee in Charge" on some jobs to ensure efficient planning and safety.
- Performing other assignments as required, with some supervision.
- Reading and interpreting one-line diagrams, schematics, and service documents.
- Maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE), hand tools, and test equipment.
- Ensuring safety policies and procedures are understood and followed.
- Identifying and wearing appropriate PPE for tasks.
- Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures and Switching Plans.
- Utilizing troubleshooting tools such as digital multimeters, clamp-on ammeters, power quality meters, infrared scanners, and circuit tracers.
- Calibrating and commissioning simple protective relays.
- Verifying control wiring point-to-point.
- Performing equipment switching, isolation, LOTO, zero volt check, and grounding.
- Performing maintenance and inspections on various electrical equipment, including high and low voltage circuit breakers, switchboards, motor starters, VFDs, transformers, and associated systems.
- Having working knowledge of NETA MTS testing standards.
- Accurately recording test data using Power DB and Maximo.
- Assisting with startup services up to 138 kV.
- Conducting safety meetings as needed.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental and safety policies.
- Maintaining strong team and client relationships.
Required Skills:
Must be capable of achieving and maintaining TS/SCI security clearance.
High school diploma or GED, along with Electrical Journeyman license or a related technical degree/certificate (e.g., AS in Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Controls, or NETA Level II or NICET Level II in Electrical Power Testing).
- Minimum five years' experience in facilities maintenance, with a thorough understanding of electrical systems, controls, generators, and life safety systems, preferably in data centers or mission-critical environments.
- Demonstrated leadership skills for scheduling and executing work efficiently in dynamic environments with extensive equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematics.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA maintenance practices, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to evaluate electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate maintenance needs, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing techniques.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and lift equipment over six feet.
- Must meet all licensing and certification requirements.
- Physical ability to lift at least 100 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Abilities:
- Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocates a 12-foot stepladder unaided.
- Works at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and balancing on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Performs routine physical activities, including walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
- Possesses good vision and hearing, with the ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Uses ladders safely while carrying tools.
