Overview
Electrical Maintenance Technicians are responsible for installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical systems and components. They work on low, medium, and high voltage systems to ensure electrical maintenance is completed safely, on schedule, and within manufacturer’s guidelines. Key duties include:
- Installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical systems and components.
- Act as “Employee in Charge” on some jobs, ensuring efficient planning and safety.
- Perform other assignments as required, with some supervision.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and service documents.
- Maintain personal support equipment, PPE, hand tools, and test equipment.
- Ensure safety compliance and promote a safe work environment.
- Identify and correctly wear PPE as required.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures and Switching Plans.
- Troubleshoot using digital multi-meters, clamp-on ammeters, power quality meters, infrared scanners, and circuit tracers.
- Calibrate and commission simple protective relays.
- Verify control wiring through point-to-point checks.
- Perform equipment switching, isolation, LOTO, zero volt check, and grounding.
- Inspect and maintain equipment such as circuit breakers, switchgear, transformers, and related systems.
- Possess working knowledge of NETA MTS testing standards.
- Record test and inspection data accurately using Power DB and Maximo.
- Assist with start-up services on switchgear and electrical systems up to 138 kV.
- Conduct safety meetings and ensure environmental and safety policy compliance.
- Build and maintain strong team and client relationships.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 10 years of relevant, hands-on electrical experience.
- Leadership skills and ability to plan and execute work efficiently.
- Proficiency in reading complex technical instructions, plans, and schematics.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA practices, and quality procedures.
- Experience in facilities maintenance, especially in data centers or mission-critical environments.
- Ability to organize workload with minimal supervision.
- Capability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and lift equipment over six feet.
- Must meet licensing and certification requirements, including active licenses depending on location.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
Abilities
- Lift at least 100 pounds and carry tools on ladders.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing scaffolds and ladders.
- Perform physical tasks such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
- Good vision and hearing, with the ability to communicate effectively.
- Recognize potential problems and apply general rules to solve specific issues.
