Job summary

Midwestern University seeks a Dean of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine to serve as chief academic officer, guiding academic and clinical programs, research, and scholarly activity. The Dean will lead strategic planning, accreditation efforts, and faculty development while collaborating with university leadership to advance the College's mission.

Qualifications

• DO degree from COCA-accredited college.
• Unrestricted osteopathic medical license at some time in career.
• AOA or ABMS board certification at some time in career.
• At least 5 years of proven academic leadership experience with budget authority.
• Full-time position; dean may not be employed outside Midwestern University.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate all academic activities and assessments to ensure mission implementation and accreditation compliance.
• Lead self-study processes and annual/mid-cycle report preparation.
• Foster interdisciplinary education across the College.
• Coordinate University support services to meet College needs.
• Recruit and retain high-quality faculty; manage departmental budgets; ensure fiscal viability.
• Oversee admissions to admit a qualified class each year; supervise clinical rotations.
• Manage finances including annual capital, salary, and operating budgets.
• Maintain productive research and scholarly activity plans.
• Develop a culture promoting scholarly activity, professionalism, and retention.
• Initiate organizational changes for growth; supervise fundraising activities and scholarship funds.
• Update a five-year strategic plan involving resources; involve faculty and students.
• Oversee student activities and external collaborations.
