Job Description


The Pendleton Elementary School Dean will work in close collaboration with the Principal and Assistant Principal to lead student discipline and attendance, supporting a safe and positive school culture. The Dean will be a visible presence on campus throughout the day, including during transitions, lunch periods, recess, and before- and after-school activities. The position will provide support to teachers in addressing student behavior and classroom management and will collaborate with staff and families to support student success. As the Athletic Director, this position will be responsible for the operations of elementary athletics, including scheduling, organization, and supervision of athletic events and teams.


Qualifications


  • Valid Indiana Certified Teacher Licensure
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience
  • Administrative licensure or school leadership experience is valued but not required.
  • Experience in student discipline and/or supervision is desired, but not required.

Primary responsibilities


Student Discipline & Behavior Support


  • Implement school discipline procedures consistent with district policies and state regulations, including thorough investigation and documentation of behavioral incidents.
  • Ensure disciplinary responses are age- and developmentally appropriate, consistent, and aligned with procedures, applicable laws, and required due-process protections.
  • Respond to behavioral concerns, repeated misconduct, and safety incidents by coordinating appropriate, targeted interventions.
  • Communicate discipline decisions, concerns, and improvement plans clearly and professionally with students, parents, and staff, including timely follow-up as needed.
  • Help students understand the impact of their behavior, take responsibility for their actions, and make positive behavioral choices.
  • Collaborate with counselors, administrators, teachers, district behavior specialists, and families to identify factors contributing to behavioral concerns and develop appropriate supports.
  • Serve as a member of the school’s MTSS Behavior Team, collaborating with staff to review student behavior data, identify students in need of additional support, and develop, monitor, and adjust targeted behavioral interventions.
  • Promote a positive school environment built on clear expectations for behavior, respect, accountability, and student responsibility.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of disciplinary incidents, actions, and interventions.

Teacher Support & School Climate


  • Collaborate with teachers to address classroom behavior concerns and develop effective strategies for managing challenging or recurring student behaviors.
  • Provide timely support to teachers when serious or ongoing behavior concerns interfere with student learning or classroom functioning.
  • Support consistent implementation of schoolwide behavior expectations and classroom management practices.

Attendance


  • Monitor daily attendance trends and identify patterns of chronic absenteeism early to implement targeted support plans.
  • Facilitate required attendance notifications and meetings, in accordance with district policies and state regulations.
  • Work with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to improve attendance.
  • Partner with counselors to support students with attendance concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions and resources.

Administrative & Operational Duties


  • Provide support to the Public Agency Representative, PAR, during select case conferences, as requested.
  • Assist with State testing activities under the direction of the Assistant Principal.
  • Manage after-hours facility use, coordinating events and building access, under the direction and guidance of the Principal.

Athletic Duties


  • Coordinate elementary athletic operations, including schedules, staffing, facilities, event setup, and supervision.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility to ensure participation aligns with district behavioral and academic expectations.
  • Collaborate with the PHMS Athletic Director to coordinate opportunities for 6th-grade students to participate with middle school teams, when appropriate.
  • Ensure athletic practices and competitions are conducted in a safe, organized, and well-supervised environment.
