Overview
The Dean of Health Sciences is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership in accordance with Broward College’s strategic and institutional effectiveness plans. The position exercises executive leadership in planning, organizing, directing, and assessing programs and processes that promote academic achievement, innovation, and strategic growth across all levels of the Health Sciences Pathway.
Essential Responsibilities
Academic Leadership (30%)- Provide executive leadership for identifying, articulating, and executing program needs and innovative curricula identified by faculty, students, and community stakeholders.
- Strategically drive development of new programs and pathway articulations to transfer institutions based on rigorous healthcare workforce analytics and emerging industry trends.
- Partner closely with Associate Deans to direct systematic program evaluations, strategic alignment, and continuous instructional improvement.
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with executive leaders in the private and public sectors, cultivating effective advisory committees for each health science program pathway.
Community Partnerships, Clinical Alignment & Workforce Development (25%)- Develop and leverage robust partnerships with community stakeholders and healthcare networks to secure mandatory student clinical placements, faculty resources, and external program support.
- Represent Broward College in high‑level interactions with hospitals, governmental bodies, and local health care providers.
- Collaborate directly with the College Foundation to spearhead strategic fundraising and development initiatives for the Health Science programs.
- Review, execute, and implement affiliation agreements between Broward College and external entities.
- Mitigate institutional risk by ensuring compliance with clinical agency guidelines and resolving contractual disputes.
Regulatory Compliance & Executive Oversight of Accreditation (20%)- Provide direct executive oversight for all programmatic accreditation processes, guaranteeing continuous compliance with state, federal, and specialized health profession board standards.
- Monitor, interpret, and enforce adherence to changing state and federal regulations governing healthcare workforce education.
- Direct departments and specialized programs during self‑studies, external audits, and national accreditation site visits.
- Oversee protection, governance, and safekeeping of confidential data acquired during the operational course of work.
Operational Management, Talent Development & Culture (15%)- Supervise, evaluate, and mentor Associate Deans, program directors, faculty, and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence in instruction and scholarly productivity.
- Direct the strategic design of hiring committees for faculty and staff, actively participating in the selection and retention of top‑tier personnel.
- Lead teaching, learning, and student support services by enhancing professional development opportunities and supporting faculty orientation.
- Model inclusive excellence through leadership actions that champion the College’s diversity goals.
Fiscal Forecasting, Grants & Resource Allocation (10%)- Prepare, administer, and manage large‑scale departmental health science budgets to efficiently allocate human, fiscal, and physical resources.
- Lead multi‑year capital forecasting and equipment replacement planning to maintain advanced simulation spaces and labs.
- Seek, develop, and manage external state, federal, and private grants that support strategic objectives.
- Monitor enrollment metrics and partner with Admissions and Recruiters to achieve enrollment, retention, and student success goals.
- Secure external student scholarships and dedicated pathway funding through regional hospital partners.
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred in Education, Administration, a Health Sciences discipline, or a closely related field.
Minimum Experience: 7–10 years of progressive management and administrative experience in higher education or a complex healthcare organization; direct teaching and/or professional work‑related experience in the health sciences field.
Minimum Certification/License: Active professional license or certification in a healthcare field.
Core Competencies: Proven strategic execution, fiscal operations expertise, labor & contract relations competency, regulatory acuity.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strategic Execution – ability to translate institutional strategic plans into functional, measurable roadmaps.
- Fiscal Operations – expert knowledge of public budgeting, capital asset forecasting, and compliance rules governing federal/state grants.
- Labor & Contract Relations – competency in interpreting contractual provisions and negotiating partnership agreements.
- Regulatory Acuity – deep understanding of compliance landscapes governing health education, clinical placements, and specialized programmatic accreditations.
