Job summary

The Louisiana Commission for the Deaf (LCD) seeks a Director of Deaf Services to provide strategic leadership, supervision, and administration of DS programs across New Orleans and St. Tammany regions.

This role drives ADA/compliance training, community outreach, and advocacy for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities, with a focus on accessibility and inclusivity. Responsibilities include managing staff, budget, and performance, ensuring quality outcomes, and delivering public

Qualifications

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
  • Strong knowledge of Deaf culture, history, and community norms.
  • Understanding of ADA, IDEA, and disability rights laws.
  • Excellent communication across Deaf and hearing audiences.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse partners.

Responsibilities

  • Public education & training on Deaf rights, ADA, inclusive communication.
  • Develop training materials for schools, agencies, businesses, and partners.
  • Deliver community presentations promoting Deaf culture and accessibility.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on Deaf rights and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with Deaf organizations and advocacy groups.
  • Lead outreach campaigns and represent the organization at events.
  • Oversee program operations, staff performance, and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA and confidentiality standards.
  • Manage monthly/quarterly/annual reporting and invoicing.
  • Coordinate with Lighthouse liaison and LCD leadership.
