Job summary

Overbrook School for the Blind invites a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf to join our team. You will design individualized instruction plans, align goals with IEPs, and provide direct or consultative support to students who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind, including those with additional disabilities.

You will train interveners, collaborate with classroom teachers and TVIs, and participate in IEP meetings to ensure effective, multisensory instruction and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Deaf Education or equivalent; PA cert required.
• PA teaching certification or eligibility; valid driver’s license.
• Experience with deaf/hard of hearing students and additional disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized instructional plans based on assessments.
• Set classroom goals aligned with IEPs and provide direct or consultative instruction.
• Provide training for interveners in deafblind practices and communication methods.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and TVIs to implement IEP goals and accommodations.
• Mentor staff on best practices in deaf education and sensory access.
• Lead or participate in IEP meetings and professional learning communities.
• Stay current with developments in deaf education and related technologies.
• Maintain a safe, age-appropriate learning environment and proper use of school facilities.
