California State University, Fullerton seeks a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Coordinator to provide leadership in accessibility and support for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The role partners with campus offices to coordinate accommodations, advise students, and promote inclusive practices across programs and services.

Department: The Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) within the Division of Student Affairs strives to increase access and retention for students with permanent and temporary disabilities by ensuring equitable treatment in all aspects of campus life. The program acts as a catalyst and agent for compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations mandating equal opportunity and access for person with disabilities. Our office provides co-curricular and academically related services which empower students with disabilities to achieve academic and personal self-determination. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Coordinator (Student Services Professional II). Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with a student population, faculty, staff, service providers, vendors, and members of the public. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of campus and external partners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and professionally in person and through written correspondence and email. Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of campus policies, procedures, resources, activities, and the overall organization. Working knowledge and understanding of California State University (CSU) policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures related to disability services and accessibility. Previous professional experience working with students with disabilities, preferably within a higher education or student services environment. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture and the experiences and access needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) individuals. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), with the ability to communicate effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and community members.
Working knowledge of applicable disability and accessibility laws and regulations, including Sections 503, 504, and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Knowledge of services, technologies, equipment, and communication access resources commonly used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, including interpreting and captioning services. Ability to use personal computers (PC and Mac), adaptive technologies, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other technology necessary to coordinate services and maintain records.
Ability to plan, coordinate, organize, and monitor DHH services and related activities. Ability to maintain highly organized and accurate records, manage competing priorities, and coordinate multiple service requests and deadlines. Ability to analyze complex situations, identify service needs or concerns, and determine appropriate courses of action. Ability to advise and assist students individually on complex disability- and access-related matters and to complete assignments with limited supervision.
