Job description

SLB New Energy & Industrial (NEI) is a division of SLB; our portfolio includes ventures in carbon capture and sequestration, geothermal power, energy storage, sustainable battery‑grade lithium, hydrogen, and Data Center Infrastructure Solutions.

Our Data Center Infrastructure Solutions business provides innovative and cost‑effective solutions that enable building faster, smarter, and more resilient data centers. Our modular infrastructure solutions scale AI and cloud computing capacity while minimizing capital risk and deployment delays. From design and supply chain to commissioning and operations, by standardizing components and relocating labor to controlled offsite environments, we help reduce costs, improve lead times, and lower construction risk while ensuring quality and global repeatability.

SLB is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our New Product Development (NPD) team supporting next‑generation Data Center Infrastructure products and technologies. This role will work closely with experienced engineers and product development teams to design, develop, prototype, and test innovative mechanical systems used in modular data centers and advanced cooling solutions.

The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to the development of products such as Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), piping manifolds, cold plate cooling systems, server rack cooling equipment, and modular containerized infrastructure solutions. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from concept generation through prototyping, testing, and commercialization.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer with strong mechanical design fundamentals, an interest in thermal and fluid systems, and an entrepreneurial mindset. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to help build innovative products in one of the fastest‑growing industries supporting AI and cloud computing.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Engineer will support the goals and programs established by the management team. These roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the design and development of new products for data center infrastructure applications.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, layouts, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks and/or Creo.
  • Assist with the design of liquid cooling systems, piping layouts, manifolds, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Support the development of modular and containerized data center solutions.
  • Participate in engineering calculations, component selection, and design evaluations.
  • Assist with prototype assembly, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to develop innovative cooling and mechanical solutions.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and test reports.
  • Support Design Reviews, risk assessments, and product development activities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to improve product designs and support production readiness.
  • Participate in root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for design or manufacturing issues.
  • Work with suppliers to evaluate components, materials, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends related to data center infrastructure and cooling technologies.
  • Support product launches and transition activities from development to production.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn, take initiative, and grow technical capabilities within a collaborative engineering environment.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 1-5 years of mechanical engineering experience in product development, equipment design, or related engineering environments.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Creo.
  • Experience with mechanical system design involving piping, fluid systems, hydraulic circuits, or cooling equipment.
  • Familiarity with heat transfer, fluid flow, and thermal management principles.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, laboratory testing, and hands‑on product validation activities.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and GD&T principles.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Self‑starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and desire to grow in a rapidly evolving industry.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data center infrastructure technologies such as Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs), cold plates, liquid cooling systems, manifolds, server rack cooling, or thermal management equipment.
  • Experience designing modular systems, industrial equipment, or containerized solutions.
  • Experience with HVAC, refrigeration, thermal management, or industrial cooling products.
  • Familiarity with welded structures, industrial framing systems, and equipment enclosures.
  • Interest in pursuing or ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future.
  • Experience working in cross‑functional product development environments from concept through commercialization.
