Qualifications

  • Substantial practice experience before FERC; hands-on due diligence.
  • Experience reviewing credit agreements and legal opinions.
  • Core experience in renewable energy (wind, solar, or battery storage) required; power generation and transmission preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advise administrative agents and lender syndicates on FERC regulatory risks in financings and refinancings of solar, wind, standalone battery storage, and hybrid facilities.
  • Advise on electric power and natural gas markets and rates.
  • Counsel clients on the Federal Power Act, Natural Gas Act, Energy Policy Act of 2005, Public Utility Holding Company Act of 2005, and PURPA, along with other federal rules affecting the energy sector.
  • Defend energy traders, financial institutions, and electric utilities in FERC and CFTC investigations, including matters resolved before any enforcement action is initiated.
  • Handle related federal court litigation and appellate work.
  • Support generation and infrastructure acquisitions, including gas-fired generation, cogeneration, microgrid and district energy, and pumped storage assets.

Job description

Winston Taylor is seeking a practice counsel to join its Energy & Infrastructure team within the Project Finance group. This is a non-partnership track position. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience supporting project finance and M&A deals in the energy sector. Candidates must possess substantial practice experience before FERC, hands‑on expertise conducting due diligence, and direct experience reviewing credit agreements and legal opinions. Core experience in renewable energy—specifically wind, solar, or battery storage is required, while additional background in power generation and transmission is preferred.

Core Responsibilities
