Job summary

Career Movement in California partners with a growing home furnishings retailer to modernize its data infrastructure, moving from legacy SQL Server systems to cloud-native pipelines that feed BI and AI initiatives.

You will own both keep-it-running duties and build-what's-next projects, collaborating closely with a small, high-visibility AI/ML function and leveraging Azure data services, SSIS, and C# tooling to drive faster, more reliable insights.

Qualifications

• Strong SQL Server administration including performance tuning, backups and security.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines (SSIS).
• Proficiency in C# for custom data tooling, integrations and automation.
• Exposure to Power BI as a BI tool.
• Familiarity with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, or SQL Database) or comparable cloud platform.
• Comfort operating in a hybrid environment with legacy and cloud pipelines.
• Ability to balance day-to-day operational work with longer-term build projects.
• Collaborative mindset for working with a small AI/ML team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimize the existing SQL Server environment for performance, backups, security, and reliability.
• Develop and sustain ETL pipelines and data integration workflows (SSIS).
• Build and maintain data tooling using C# to automate processes and integrations.
• Leverage Power BI for reporting and analytics; enable data self-service.
• Partner with the AI/ML team to support data needs and infrastructure modernization.

Looking for someone who cut their teeth as a database administrator and has since built real experience with Azure cloud data services. You'll own both the keep-it-running side and the build-what's-next side, working closely with a small, high-visibility AI/ML function.

Requirements

• Solid foundation in SQL and SQL Server administration (performance tuning, indexing, backups, security)
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines, ideally with SSIS
• Proficiency in C# for custom data tooling, integrations, and automation
• Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI
• Familiarity with Azure data services (Data Factory, Synapse, or SQL Database) or a comparable cloud platform
• Comfort operating in a hybrid environment where legacy systems and modern cloud pipelines run side by side
• Ability to balance day to day operational work with longer term build projects
• Collaborative mindset for working closely with a small, high visibility AI and ML team
