Job summary

A leading staffing firm is seeking a Database Administrator in Dallas, TX. This role requires expertise in managing SQL Server on Azure VMs and a strong foundational DBA knowledge. The candidate will be responsible for owning the database systems, ensuring a smooth transition to cloud-native architecture, and linking operational work with future data platform designs. A blend of DBA and platform engineering skills is essential, as well as familiarity with hybrid infrastructures and data management tools.

• Must have experience managing databases across both environments today, with the ability to evolve toward a more cloud-native architecture over time.
• Strong traditional DBA skillset (despite modern tooling):
• While many databases are managed services (less focus on patching/upgrades), the team needs someone with deep foundational DBA knowledge who can operate at a low level when needed.
• Data platform engineering mindset (beyond just DBA):
• This role blends DBA + platform engineering—requires understanding how to build and support data platforms, not just maintain them.

Role Scope & Ownership

• Acts as the primary database owner for all systems excluding SAP
• Responsible for SQL Server on Azure VM environment from Day 1
• Will support a transition from hybrid → more cloud-native architecture over time
• Expected to bridge operational DBA work with future-state data platform design

Key Technologies & Platform Direction

Core Environment

• SQL Server (Azure VM initially)
• Hybrid infrastructure (on-prem + cloud)
• Used for building pipelines and large-scale data extraction
• Replacing tools like Apache Airflow

Microsoft Fabric

• Focus is on building the platform / data layer, not Power BI
• Goal: enable end users to access data via Lakehouse architecture

SAP Business Data Cloud

• Less critical day-to-day
• Candidate should understand how it fits into the ecosystem
