Job summary

NC State University is seeking a Journey Utilities Plant Operator (Dayshift) to help operate and monitor campus utility systems, including electricity, steam, hot water, and chilled water. The role is full-time, with a 12-hour shift from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, three to four days a week, on Raleigh campus.

Your duties include real-time monitoring, inspections, and coordination with a shift supervisor to optimize performance while maintaining safety and reliability in a dynamic central plant

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related experience.
• Maintains required certification(s).

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor central utility systems providing electricity, steam, hot water, and chilled water.
• Monitor plant operations, troubleshoot equipment, perform inspections, and maintain safe, efficient service.
• Assist in controlling and monitoring steam boilers, chillers, cogeneration equipment, and auxiliary systems.
• Inspect plant equipment such as fuel gas compressors, air filters, pumps, and cooling towers.
• Support operation of the Cates and Centennial Cogeneration Facilities.
• Lift and transport up to 60 pounds and work in varied outdoor conditions.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public, following instructions.
