Job summary

Harvard Protection Services seeks a Security Officer for a full-time, Monday–Friday role in New York. The officer provides professional security and life-safety services, maintains a visible presence, and responds to incidents to protect people and property.

Ideal candidates hold a security guard license (or can obtain one) and have a HS diploma/GED, reliable communication and transportation, and strong interpersonal skills with a neat, professional appearance.

Qualifications

• State or municipality mandated security officer licenses.
• Minimum High School Diploma, GED or the equivalent.
• Must have a security guard license or be able to obtain one within an acceptable period.
• Must have reliable means of communication and transportation.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and neat and professional appearance.
• Write routine correspondence, to include log entries and incident reporting.
• Previous contract security, law enforcement, military, customer service experience helpful.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional demeanor and assist customers, employees, visitors, and guests.
• Maintain a visible presence in the facility or building assigned.
• Monitor the environment and detect suspicious or unsafe activity.
• Become familiar with incoming/outgoing traffic and know customers, tenants, visitors, and guests.
• Greet customers, visitors, staff, tenants, and guests professionally.
• Answer phones in a professional manner.
• Permit entry to authorized persons and monitor entrances/exits.
• Enforce facility policies within role limits.
• Perform patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle.
• Observe departing personnel to prevent theft and ensure proper removal of property.
• Follow emergency action plans and monitor alarms.
• Prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
