Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Histotechnology or Clinical Laboratory Science program.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in histology preferred; ASCP accreditation may substitute for experience.
• Current New York State Laboratory/Histology Technician License and ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform all standard histologic techniques with precision and efficiency.
• Process tissue specimens using manual, microwave, and automated methods.
• Embed tissue types and sizes for sectioning.
• Cut and prepare tissue sections for routine, special, and IHC staining.
• Maintain staining procedures for diagnostic and confirmatory purposes.
• Label and cover slip tissue sections for archival and diagnostic use.
• Maintain reagents, stains, and equipment in good condition.
• Perform frozen section preparation and staining as required.
• Assist cytological techniques including specimen processing, slide prep, and Pap/Diff-Quik stains.
• Maintain filing systems for blocks and slides and participate in QA procedures.
