Job summary

Sweeping Corporation of America is hiring a Day Diesel Mechanic for the Maplewood, NJ area. This full-time role focuses on inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing street sweepers and related equipment, with emphasis on hydraulic, electrical, and air systems. You’ll ensure reliability and safety across our fleet.

You will perform maintenance, read blueprints, follow torque specs, and maintain thorough documentation while coordinating with operators and supervisors to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• 2 years of hands-on shop experience with hydraulic, electrical, and air systems; heavy equipment preferred.
• Driver’s License required.
• Must provide/maintain basic hand and diagnostic tools.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• MVR/background/DOT and drug screening as per policy.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough inspections and follow safety protocols.
• Carry out assembly, repair, and preventive maintenance with accuracy.
• Operate diagnostic tools to identify mechanical issues on sweepers and equipment.
• Handle components, lubricants, and fluids safely; dispose properly.
• Report issues promptly and communicate maintenance needs to operators.
• Maintain documentation including service reports and checklists.
• Adhere to safety, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Diagnose problems and collaborate on solutions to reduce downtime.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance on assigned shifts.
