Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for the Post-Surgical Unit. The role emphasizes patient safety, continuous observation, and support with activities of daily living under RN supervision.

Shifts are days, 24 hours per week, with on-site work. You will collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to implement the patient care plan and ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Ability to communicate with staff and patients.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and standard precautions.
• Respect for patient rights and confidentiality.
• Basic computer skills.
• Behavioral health education/training within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Patient Safety: Continuously observe patients and report changes to nursing staff promptly.
• Activity and Comfort: Assist with beds, turning/positioning, and transfers.
• Hygiene: Assist with bathing and hygiene tasks.
• Nutrition: Assist with meals and hydration; feed patients not at risk for aspiration.
• Elimination: Assist with elimination needs and document outputs.
• Equipment: Use equipment and supplies safely.
• Infection Prevention: Adhere to hand hygiene and universal precautions.
• Documentation: Record care and observations as directed by RN.
• Communication: Report observations to RN and maintain confidentiality.
• Orientation: Complete department core competencies.
• Miscellaneous: Talk with patients, read to them, and participate in meetings; other duties as delegated.
