Job summary

Cottonwood Inc. in Lawrence, KS is hiring a Direct Support Professional to help adults with disabilities thrive through daily living, learning, and leisure activities. You will work in small groups, providing personal attention, dignity, and support during meals, hygiene, and community activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Must have a valid Class C driver’s license and driving record acceptable to Cottonwood’s insurer.
• Must be physically able to evacuate individuals in emergencies and intervene in conflicts.
• Experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Spend time at day program and in the community engaging in events, classes, and activities.
• Support participants with mealtime and hygiene needs ensuring comfort and dignity.
• Plan and participate in activities that bring joy and lasting memories.

A valid class C driver’s license is required, along with a driving record acceptable to Cottonwood’s insurance provider. Experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred. Must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry at least 25 lbs., endure some physical exertion (assisting with transfers, wet mopping etc.), and be able to evacuate consumers in the event of an emergency. Must be able to intervene in the event of a physical conflict and provide assistance with personal care. Must have basic computer skills, be able to access Cottonwood email, and complete data entry. A valid class C driver’s license is required, along with a driving record acceptable to Cottonwood’s insurance provider. Must be able to pass all required back ground checks and drug screen.
