Job summary

US Foods in Perth Amboy, NJ is seeking a Yard Jockey CDL to coordinate trailer movements, couple and prepare equipment, and support nightly shuttle operations. You will work with Dispatchers, mechanics and warehouse staff to ensure smooth logistics.

Starting pay is $26.59 per hour plus overtime, with benefits beginning day one. Candidates must hold a valid CDL Class A, be at least 21, and have English proficiency. Six months of commercial driving experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold CDL Class A with required endorsements and DOT qualifications.

• FMCSA Clearinghouse registration is required by DOT.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Dispatchers for assignments and work with mechanics on equipment needs.

• Safely move, load, and unload trailers between buildings and environments.
• Configure trailers for backhaul and quick unloading.
• Attend required meetings and adapt to additional duties while maintaining safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Yard Jockey CDL - Position Overview

Join our team as a Yard Jockey, where your agility and quick-thinking will ensure our logistics run smoothy! As a Yard Jockey CDL, you'll be at the heart of operations, expertly coordinating the movement and management of trailers. Your effective communication and proactive approach will be key in collaborating with Dispatchers, Warehouse Supervisors, and mechanics to maintain seamless workflow and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Communicate & Collaborate: Coordinate with Dispatchers for assignments and work with mechanics on equipment needs.


• Couple & Prepare: Ensure equipment is coupled, ready for use, and prepared for nightly shuttle operations.


• Move & Load: Safely relocate, load, and unload trailers between buildings and environments.


• Stage & Set Up: Configure trailers for backhaul and position them for quick unloading.


• Engage: Attend required meetings and adapt to additional duties as necessary, ensuring a safe work environment.


• Adaptability: All other duties assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

Lift/carry/push/pull/lower 20 to 80+ lbs. of product repetitively during each shift required.

Driving & working in inclement weather conditions with frequent stops (10+ per shift) required.

Continuously grasp objects & manipulate objects. Frequently sit, stand, walk, drive, climb/balance, stoop/squat, kneel/bend, bend, reach above shoulder, twist, and use manual dexterity.

Qualifications

• Register to the FMCSA Clearinghouse*


• Must be at least 21 years of age.


• Must have valid CDL Class A issued by the state of legal residence with necessary endorsements and DOT qualifications.


• Minimum of six months commercial driving experience preferred.


• Ability to operate manual transmission preferred; may be required in specific locations.


• Must be able to read and communicate in the English language - able to hold a conversation, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to enter information on reports and records.

Registering to the FMCSA Clearinghouse is a requirement by the Department of Transportation. All Drivers are required to visit the Clearinghouse website and register to the new database. The Clearinghouse is a secure online database that provides real-time information about commercial driver's license (CDL) and commercial learner's permit (CLP) holders' drug and alcohol program violations. Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law (for example: state minimum wage thresholds). The expected base rate for this role is between $26.59 and $38.01.

As applicable, this role may also receive overtime compensation.
