Position Summary: The Day Camp Director works with the Program Ministries Coordinator to develop and implement a summer day camp program that meets the community's needs and interests. They ensure the efficient operation of the camp, supervise staff, manage daily activities, and create a safe, fun environment for campers.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in pre-camp training and planning.
  2. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers and staff.
  3. Follow all policies, procedures, licensing guidelines, and standards set by The Salvation Army.
  4. Maintain Safe From Harm guidelines when working with children.
  5. Supervise campers and counselors during water activities and specialty programs.
  6. Evaluate counselors constructively, providing and receiving feedback.
  7. Ensure high standards in all activities, themes, and programs.
  8. Motivate staff throughout the summer.
  9. Assist peers as needed.
  10. Gather and utilize feedback from parents and campers to evaluate the program weekly.
  11. Provide breaks for counselors to ensure staff health.
  12. Be visible during check-in and check-out to assist parents and campers.
  13. Suggest improvements for camp and programs.
  14. Maintain all relevant paperwork.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Some college in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in administration, summer camp programs, or classroom management.
  • Two years’ experience working with children, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
  • Effective communication with parents, staff, children, and the public.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint.
  • Willingness to learn new software.
Certificates and Licenses:
  • Complete and maintain Safe From Harm training.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
