Job description

To lead the daily operations of the summer camp program under the direct supervision of the Recreation Manager. Job responsibilities include direct contact and supervision of children, while stimulating active participation.

  • Lead, monitor, and maintain awareness of summer camp activities.
  • Carry out instructions promptly and efficiently.
  • Supervise children ages 6 to 12.
  • Display interest and enthusiasm to encourage active participation.
  • Supervise summer camp staff.
  • Assist with the training of summer camp staff.
  • Communicate program needs through supervisor.
  • Provide ideas and suggestions for summer camp activities.
  • Communicate information regarding summer camp activities to children's parents and/or guardians.
  • Record program progress, problems, and/or needs to supervisor.
  • Maintain attendance record, statistics and reports, as assigned.
  • Set up/break down program equipment.
  • Maintain program equipment and facilities, as assigned.
  • Perform basic administrative tasks, including: filing, completing park forms, answering and/or placing phone calls, etc.
  • Maintain a professional image to the public at all times.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate a professional demeanor to City staff and the public at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a college graduate or currently enrolled in college. An equivalent combination of education and/or training may be substituted.
  • Previous experience as a team athletics coach, sports specific instructor, or educational teacher. An equivalent combination of work experience in recreation may be substituted.
  • Previous experience supervising staff in recreational sports and/or activities.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Ability to lead and supervise in a group setting.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid American Red Cross CPR/AED certification. Must obtain prior to the first day of working at the Summer Camp Program.
  • Valid American Red Cross First Aid certification. Must obtain prior to the first day of working at the Summer Camp Program.
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement, a VECHS background screening to include clearance through DCF for the Summer.
