Position: Day Camp Counselor (Seasonal/Non-Exempt)
Salary: $10/hour Level 1 (1st Year)
$11/hour Level 2 (Returning)
Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
6 weeks in June and July
Monday - Friday

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB
To supervise and actively engage the children who are part of the day camp program through games, crafts, projects, and related camp activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB
- Supervise and monitor the assigned campers to ensure their safety and care while at day camp.
- Actively engage the campers to participate in daily games, crafts, projects, or related camp activities.
- Work closely with other staff members to create interesting, well-balanced, organized, innovative, motivated, and fun activities for the campers.
- Recognize and respond quickly to prevent roughhousing and effectively discipline campers in accordance with policies.
- Monitor assigned campers in and around pool areas to ensure their safety and prevent accidents.
- Communicate and enforce pool facility rules and regulations to all campers to prevent problems/injuries and educate them about dangers of prohibited activities.
- Maintain concentrated observation of the assigned campers while in pool water to anticipate problems and identify emergencies quickly.
- Communicate with campers, parents/guardians, and others to help fulfill the above tasks.
- Clean up and assist campers in gathering their personal items at the end of the day, and gather garbage/debris from the pool yard area.
- Perform all other job-related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives daily instruction and ongoing supervision regarding daily work duties from Supervisor. Works occasionally at the site independently and consults the supervisor only as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works outdoors in adequate work space, direct sunlight, and varying temperatures.
- Works with above-average exposure to stress and noise, but is subject to frequent disruptions.
- Potential exposure to hostility, violence, or physical outbreaks of irate individuals.
- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
- Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Must possess the ability to follow instructions and pay close attention to details.
- Must possess the ability to record, convey, and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
- Must be able to stand, run, and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and grasping as necessary to carry out job duties.
- Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out job duties.
- Medium work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 25-50 pounds; occasionally lifts 100 pounds.
- Must demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to compute simple math calculations.
- Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday.
QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION/TRAINING
- High school student or diploma plus experience in child care, babysitting, CPR/AED, and Standard First Aid.
- PA ChildLine Clearance, PA State Police, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are REQUIRED.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language to carry out essential job duties.
- Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility, and work effectively with vendors, co-workers, and others.
- Must possess basic knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and the ability to exercise skill in responding to and preventing accidents.
- Must possess the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be thoroughly aware and able to apply pool rules and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of job responsibilities to the County, the public, and fellow co-workers.
- Must be able to interact and communicate with people.
