Job description

Job Objective: Provide a safe environment for children participating in the Summer Day Camp Programs.



Essential Functions:



  • Assist in the supervision of program participants in small groups as they participate in program activities as developed and implemented by the ministry program team

  • Participate with campers in a positive, encouraging, age-appropriate manner

  • As needed, assist in the implementation and clean up after scheduled activities

  • Initiate activities as needed

  • Protect the physical, emotional and spiritual well being of all program participants

  • Encourage and promote positive relationships amongst all day camp staff

  • Create and lead an environment that helps children and youth maintain control so that they can manage their own behavior in a socially appropriate manner. Provide appropriate discipline for children and youth as needed

  • As needed, serve as a point of contact for parents/care givers of youth enrolled in day camp

  • Follow, enforce and promote all rules, policies and procedures



Minimum Qualifications:


Education: Minimum 9th grade education completion, at least 15 years of age.



Experience: Prior experience working with children preferred.



Certifications/Licenses: None



Skills/Abilities:



  • Must be well organized

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter

  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities

  • Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army


Supervisory Responsibility: None



Physical Requirements: Include vision, hearing, and speaking; actively participating in indoor and outdoor activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Working Conditions: The work environment for this position includes an office, gym, and outdoor environment with a low to high noise level.
