Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required with two years of college or relevant work experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience with a focus on child supervision.

Job description

Job Objective: Plan, develop, organize, and supervise/direct programs for The Salvation Army Day Camp.



Essential Functions:



  • Prepare a schedule of activities and a theme (curriculum) for each week that nurtures a positive experience for all campers

  • Organize and monitor the Day Camp program so that counselors have maximum participation and supervision

  • Be available on site for Day Camp campers and staff, arranging break times as needed so campers are supervised at all times

  • Obtain resources needed for activities and prepare creative activities to help fill voids in schedule. Make sure all equipment is ready for the activity and is properly cleaned and stored at the conclusion of the activity or day

  • Adequately communicate with all staff members and with the parents of campers. Correspond with camper's parents/guardians, keeping them informed of the camp activities and their child's participation

  • Be sure that areas in Corps are neat, clean, and in good repair

  • Give adequate supervision and guidance to staff and give them opportunities to perform as "leadership" (leading games, activities, etc.)

  • Perform all camper check-in duties including reviewing heath forms with parent/guardian, record all late arrivals and early pickups, collect fee's and all paperwork required

  • Assist in emergencies and fill out reports accordingly; report incidents and /or accidents to supervisors

  • Provide positive, encouraging, and uplifting attitude toward campers and counselors.



Minimum Qualifications:


Education: High School/GED and two (2) years college or adequate work experience.



Experience:Prior supervisory and management experience with the ability to train and lead staff and/or volunteers. Experience working with children preferred



Certifications/Licenses:CPR/First Aid



Skills/Abilities:



  • Familiar with philosophies, standards, and methods developed in The Salvation Army, and model traditional Christian values and the policies/practices of The Salvation Army

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well within minimum supervision

  • Demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment

  • Ability to initiate, develop, and follow through with new and current programs

  • Computer literate and willing to learn and use new programs that would be beneficial for the ministry

  • Must be enthusiastic, friendly, and outgoing

  • Have the desire and ability to work with children, youth and adults



Supervisory Responsibility:Summer Day Camp Employees



Physical Requirements: Include vision, hearing, and speaking; actively participating in indoor and outdoor activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.



Travel: None



Driving:This position requires an employee to drive. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.



Working Conditions: The work environment for this position includes an office, gym, and outdoor environment with a low to high noise level.
