Job summary

PulteGroup is seeking a DataOps Engineer to implement and manage data platforms built on Microsoft Azure data services, Fabric, and SQL Server. You will ensure high performance, availability, and cost-optimized environments, with rotating on-call responsibilities.

The role requires collaboration with Data Engineers and Developers, governance adherence, and automation of deployment pipelines. Flexible hours and on-call duties apply, as part of a growing data platform team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support for the data platform including creation, configuration, and organization of Fabric artifacts.
  • Participates in a rotating 2nd and 3rd level support schedule that requires on-call availability 24x7 during scheduled period.
  • Responsible for managing orchestration and CI/CD environment clusters while ensuring updated frameworks, libraries, and configurations.
  • Ensure all databases comply with backup and high availability/disaster recovery strategies.
  • Configures database server monitoring utilities to optimize proactive alerting and performance.
  • Collaborates with Data Engineers and Developers to implement changes.
  • Participates in data lineage, data masking, and data tagging operations per governance framework.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve resource provisioning and deployment through automation with DevOps.
  • Designs and implements role-based security controls and auditing procedures.
  • Supports auditing and reporting of deployment activity.
  • Participates in planning activities for scheduled releases and deployments.
  • Develops technical documentation for training, procedures, and project deliverables.
  • Creates and follows best practices, standards, and processes.
  • Participates in projects related to platform enhancements including new Fabric or Azure features.
  • Performs system upgrades in collaboration with other IT disciplines and third parties.
  • Contributes to incident management with root cause analysis.

Job Summary:

The DataOps Engineer is responsible for implementing and managing the operational aspects of cloud and on-premises data platforms built on Microsoft Azure data services, Microsoft Fabric, and Microsoft SQL Server. Success in this role is defined by achieving highly performant, highly available, scalable, secure, cost-optimized cloud and on-premises database environments. Required to work within flexible working hours with rotating evening hours necessary for deployment, support, and on-call activities.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Provides technical support for the data platform including creation, configuration, and organization of Fabric artifacts. Optimizes tenant and capacities environments for reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Participates in a rotating 2nd and 3rd level support schedule that requires on-call availability 24x7 during scheduled period. Troubleshoots and resolves complex Fabric issues/outages as they occur. Escalates issues as appropriate to the Engineering team, other IT disciplines, or leadership. Records, tracks, communicates, and documents issue resolutions.
  • Responsible for managing orchestration and CI/CD environment clusters while ensuring updated frameworks, libraries, and configurations.
  • Ensure all databases comply with backup and high availability/disaster recovery strategies. Perform health checks and participate in annual DR testing.
  • Configures database server monitoring utilities to optimize proactive alerting. Maintains system performance through analysis and tuning. Maintains standardized monitoring/alerting across database environment.
  • When performance issues arise, recommends approaches to increase performance including hardware upgrades, server / cloud resource configuration changes, index/query changes. Collaborates closely with Data Engineers and Developers to implement changes.
  • Participates in data lineage, data masking, and data tagging operations that adheres to Pulte’s governance and security framework
  • Identifies opportunities to improve resource provisioning, monitoring, support, and deployment through automation. Partners with DevOps Engineers to create and implement automation.
  • Designs and implements role-based security controls and creates proper auditing procedures to maintain integrity of Company database systems.
  • Supports and facilitates auditing and reporting of deployment activity.
  • Participates in planning activities for scheduled or emergency application software releases. Executes Staging and Production environment deployments.
  • Develops technical documentation for training, procedures, and project deliverables.
  • Creates and follows best practices, methods, standards, and processes.
  • Participates in projects or other tasks related to platform enhancements including testing of new Fabric or Azure related preview features
  • Performs system upgrades in collaboration with other IT disciplines and third parties.
  • Participates in incident management teams by providing information, support, and root cause analysis on data platform outages or service degradation

Required Skills
  • Must have strong hands-on experience implementing, configuring, deploying, maintaining, and monitoring data platforms
  • Experience with Fabric features including managed airflow, RTI architecture, and managed workspace identities
  • Proficient in the installation, patching, monitoring, deployment, troubleshooting, and optimization of Microsoft SQL (both Azure and on-prem)
  • Experience with administration of SSAS, SSRS, PBI gateway servers, and distributed computing platforms
  • Proficient in writing and executing T-SQL scripts and queries
  • Experience with Azure database/storage technologies
  • Experience in configuration, maintenance, testing of High Availability / Disaster Recovery for SQL Server
  • Experience with source control systems and branching strategy (Azure DevOps, Git)
  • Experience with Purview and proper data compliance frameworks
  • Experience with high level scripting languages (Python)

  • The DataOps Engineer is a platform & operations role that manages CI/CD pipelines and orchestration tools like Airflow, builds and optimizes deployment pipelines, and owns platform monitoring. They will be responsible for defining metrics, baselines, and triaging issues. They also automate workflows (e.g., workspace provisioning and approvals) and handles data governance, including lineage, row-level security, masking, and data loss prevention. Positioned as a junior-level role combining database administration and data engineering skills, the role platform-agnostic and built to add redundancy and scalable operations.
