STRS Ohio is seeking a Database Administration Specialist (or AI Specialist) to maintain high availability of databases, Windows and UNIX systems, and to leverage AI tools to boost automation and performance. The role supports security, backups, and operational efficiency in a detailed, process-driven environment.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in database administration, strong SQL Server, DB2 LUW and Oracle experience, and familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot

Qualifications

• Must have extensive database systems administration knowledge and related degrees.
• Experience with SQL Server, DB2 LUW, Oracle WebLogic and Oracle DB concepts.
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, T-SQL, PL/SQL) and AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

• Research, install, upgrade and maintain supported database systems.
• Design security schemes and perform backups, recovery and maintenance jobs.
• Monitor databases, diagnose issues and optimize performance; support AI-assisted tooling.
• Develop AI-enabled automation using Copilot Studio and related AI agents.

We are continually seeking bright and talented individuals to join our team.Compensation:$109,205 - $136,506Work Schedule:8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday (Onsite)General Summary (Grade 13 & Grade 13 AI):Under the direction of the supervisor, Systems and Database Services, ensure access to State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) data by maintaining the availability, performance and integrity of databases, Windows and UNIX operating systems, design and implement departmental standards and procedures and leverage artificial intelligence tools and platforms to enhance database administration, automation and operational efficiency.Summary of Responsibilities (Grade 13 & Grade 13 AI):Proactively research and establish installation, upgrade and maintenance procedures for supported database systems.Research, design and develop security schemes for supported database systems.Execute database backup and recovery.Develop, test and implement database maintenance jobs.Develop methods and procedures for monitoring databases and systems to pinpoint and resolve database and system problems.Leverage AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Claude Code to accelerate database administration tasks including code generation, troubleshooting and documentation.
