Job summary

STRS Ohio is seeking a Database Administration Specialist to join the Information Technology Services team on-site in Ohio. The role focuses on maintaining database availability, performance, and security across Windows and UNIX environments, with AI-assisted tooling to enhance efficiency.

Qualified candidates will have 7+ years in database systems administration, strong SQL Server/DB2/Oracle knowledge, and experience with scripting and AI-enabled development.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related field required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Seven or more years’ experience in database systems administration preferred.
• Superior knowledge of SQL Server 2019, DB2 LUW 11.1, Oracle WebLogic 14 or later versions required.

Responsibilities

• Proactively research and establish installation, upgrade and maintenance procedures for supported database systems.
• Research, design and develop security schemes for supported database systems.
• Execute database backup and recovery.
• Develop, test and implement database maintenance jobs.
• Develop methods and procedures for monitoring databases and systems to pinpoint and resolve database and system problems.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Claude Code to accelerate database administration tasks including code generation, troubleshooting and documentation.
• Design, build and deploy AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio for departmental and enterprise use cases.
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies and evaluate their applicability to database systems administration, design, and performance optimization.
• Apply preventative database and system maintenance patches.
• Provide after-hours on-call support, including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
